Sean Bean (Oliver Mellors) was called back at the beginning of filming to shoot extra shots on his previous film, Patriot Games (1992) - and during a fight scene, Harrison Ford hit him with a boat hook, which left him with stitches, and later a scar, below his eye.
The original score was removed from the DVD release because of copyright issues. As a result, non-copyrighted material was used, and often repeated several times throughout the film.
Hetty Baynes plays Hilda, Connie's sister. Their father is played by the mini-series' director, Ken Russell, who was married to Baynes at the time.
Although Sean Bean's role prior to this was the Hollywood movie Patriot Game with Harrison Ford, it would be his next role after Lady Chatterley, as Richard Sharpe in Sharpe (1993), that would prove to be his star-making turn.
Sean Bean said in an Aug. 2022 interview that he feels intimacy coordinators "spoil the spontaneity" of shooting a sex scene. He said, "It would inhibit me more because it's drawing attention to things. Somebody saying, 'Do this, put your hands there, while you touch his thing.' I think the natural way lovers behave would be ruined by someone bringing it right down to a technical exercise." He used this film as an example, saying, "Lady Chatterly was spontaneous. It was a joy. We (he and Joely Richardson) had a good chemistry between us, and we knew what we were doing was unusual. Because she was married, I was married. But we were following the story. We were trying to portray the truth of what DH Lawrence wrote."
