With its list of new releases for June 2024, HBO streamer Max is finally headed back to Westeros.
The highlight of this month is undoubtedly the premiere of House of the Dragon season 2 on June 16. Episode 1 will drop on both HBO and Max that Sunday night at 9 p.m. Et. With the infamous Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons now underway, the next batch of episodes for this Game of Thrones prequel should be truly epic.
Arriving before House of the Dragon season 2 is another story of a fraught succession. Ren Faire, a documentary series about an ailing king retiring from the country’s largest renaissance festival, premieres on June 2. Other TV options this month include Julio Torres comedy Fantasmas on June 7 and docuseries One South: Portrait of a Psych Unit on June 25.

Sydney Sweeney responds to producer's criticism as "sad," calls out attacking another woman. Baum's negative comments on Sweeney are seen as particularly harsh. Despite recent criticism, Sweeney's career is on an upward trajectory, with successful projects.
Sydney Sweeney reacts to a producer who said she “can’t act” and called a key film of hers “unwatchable.” Sweeney is a two-time Emmy-nominated actress, recognized for her work in Euphoria and The White Lotus. While most iconically known for playing the role of Cassie on Euphoria, she most recently played the lead role in the horror film Immaculate.
As per Variety, Sweeney offers her response to recent criticism. Sweeney found the comments from the producer “sad” in that “a woman in the position to share her expertise and experience chooses instead to attack another woman.” After this producer had “decades” in the industry, Sweeney felt her behavior was “shameful.” Check out...

Liam Neeson is the gravel-voiced titan of action cinema. Known for his ability to hunt his enemies to death, Neeson has thrilled audiences for years. Beyond the exhausting chase and explosive encounters, lies a deep well of respect and loyalty, particularly towards fellow actors, including fellow Irishman Jamie Dornan.
A still from Nimród Antal’s Retribution
Yet, despite this connection, Neeson has revealed he never watched the “Fifty Shades of Grey” that propelled Dornan to international fame. While he truly respects Dornan, he does have a valid reason never to watch the steamy film series.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is talking about how Dolly Parton was a producer on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
During a visit to The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Gellar was asked about Parton being an uncredited producer on the show she starred in for seven seasons.
“Yes, little known fact, the legend Dolly Parton was a producer,” she said on the NBC late-night show. “We never saw her [but] we’d get Christmas gifts in the beginning that would have our name, and I would think, ‘She doesn’t even know who I am.’ And then one day, someone asked her about it, and she complimented the show and my performance. I was like, ‘Oh, I can die now. Dolly Parton knows who I am and thinks I’m good.'”
Sandollar Productions, which Parton started with her then-business partner Sandy Gallin, was behind the supernatural drama, alongside Mutant Enemy Productions and 20th Century Fox Television.

Since 1980, UCLA film grads and industry veterans John J. B. Wilson and Mo Murphy have honored the very worst in cinema with the Razzie Awards. Here’s a look back to the worst pictures of the last four decades.
“Can’t Stop the Music” (1980)
The Golden Raspberry Awards got their start by recognizing this musical comedy, a justly mocked quasi-biopic of the Village People.
Rotten Tomatoes score: 8%
“Mommie Dearest” (1981)
Faye Dunaway goes full camp as Joan Crawford in a docudrama whose comedy was often unintentional.
Rotten Tomatoes score: 53%
“Inchon” (1982)
This bloated, over-budget Korean war film starring Laurence Olivier as Gen. Douglas MacArthur was an epic turkey.
Rotten Tomatoes score: 0%
“The Lonely Lady” (1983)
Pia Zadora followed her mysterious (and widely mocked in retrospect) Golden Globe win for “Butterfly” with this adaptation of a trashy Harold Robbins novel about a schoolgirl/wannabe screenwriter.
Rotten Tomatoes score: 0%
“Bolero” (1984)
Bo Derek ditches her “10” cornrows to...

When two lions of 1990s filmmaking team up you can expect solid popcorn entertainment. In Sully, Tom Hanks and Clint Eastwood deliver that and then some, proving again they are masters at their game. But the film nevertheless a straightforward paint-by-numbers exercise, with clearly defined heroes and villains, both peppered on top of straight-forward exposition, climax, and resolution. And like many of its type, the protagonists’ motivations in Sully are not always clear. They are instead cast aside for the sake of story-telling. But, hey, at least it’s good story-telling.
You know the main contours of the plot: one frosty January morning in 2009, U.S. Airways Captain Sullenberg miraculously and amazingly landed a plane on the Hudson River, 208 seconds after the jet’s engines had been knocked out by a flock of birds. What you may not be as familiar with is the entanglement that Eastwood uses to turn...

A good chunk of this week’s Nashville – the Season 2 premiere – takes place in the past. It’s a softly-lit time filled with bad hair, questionable fashion and tears, and it provides a sad counterpoint for even sadder events in the present: namely, Rayna’s coma and Deacon’s guilt.
Elsewhere, Juliette once more proves herself an opportunist extraordinaire, and Will’s not gay. No, seriously! So straight! Nothing to see here!

Female Trouble: Bouchareb’s Understated First Chapter in Arab-American Trilogy
Algerian filmmaker Rachid Bouchareb, perhaps most widely recognized for his films Outside the Law (2010) and Days of Glory (2006), depicting historical and divisive conflicts between Algeria and France, returns once again to the Us with Just Like a Woman, the first film of a planned trilogy depicting the transforming relationships between the Western and Arab world. A female centric road film born out of severe character conflicts created by their oppressive, male dominated existence ensures that the film will be rampantly compared to Ridley Scott’s Thelma & Louise (1991), even though it avoids an overtly melodramatic malaise. Shining through its formulaic setup and stereotypical antagonists are a pair of actresses that manage to fit perfectly with Bouchareb’s knack for uniting people despite of their socially constructed differences.

Two 10 o’clock shows — NBC’s Revolution and CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 — were the only gainers on this oddly quiet second Monday of sweeps.
The Voice opened NBC’s night with 11.9 million total viewers and a 3.9 demo rating, down 6 and 9 percent week-to-week to tie a season low. But Revolution led out of that with 6.3 mil and a 2.0 rating (adjusted down per finals), rising two tenths.

Hawaii Five-0 meanwhile netted 7.8 mil/1.9, ticking up two tenths.

Knight and Day I'm starting with this one, not because I think it's a must buy, but I certainly want to have it in my collection as I enjoyed it quite a bit. I'll admit, the film has its problems, but I was able to overlook them as Knight and Day is one of the few films I saw in the theater twice this year. My Blu-ray review copy has yet to arrive so I can't tell you how it stacks up at home, but if you haven't seen it, this is one of those films I suggest a Netflix rental just to see what you think before spending your cash. As an unashamed Cruise fan I'm certainly susceptible to his films, but you may feel differently. The Sorcerer's Apprentice I enjoyed this film as well, but unlike Knight and Day...
