Filmed when the X-Games (then called X-Games 101) started becoming popular and in-line skating was the craze. Chris Edwards (Walt and skating double for Mitchell) was well-known for his X-Games appearances and was one of the members of Team Rollerblade. Ironically, Edwards' character Walt is revealed to be a poor skater in the final race, matching Wiley's performance.
Shane McDermott's feature film debut. As of 2025, it remains the only movie in which he ever appeared.
The Central High School in the movie is actually Western Hills University High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Baseball greats Pete Rose and Whitey Herzog are among the school's most distinguished alumni.
Though never given credit, a decent portion of the movie is filmed in Newport and Covington, KY as well as Hamilton, OH. Wiley's house, the restaurant, double date scenes, and some of the race scenes are from these locations. Bellevue, KY is the only Kentucky city ever given credit.
