No sequel was originally planned for Beethoven (1992), but after the film became a surprise box office success, a sequel was commissioned.
Unlike her character Regina, Debi Mazar loves dogs. She did not enjoy yelling at them or handling them roughly and would apologize profusely and pet them between takes.
Christopher Masterson had a small role in the film, however his older brother, Danny Masterson, had a leading role in the film. The two were not playing brothers in the movie, so neither one mentioned to anyone that they were related. When producers went to view the film, they noticed the resemblance, and re-shot all of Chris' scenes with another actor.
Madonna was actually the first choice for the role of Regina but due to her recent success in movies with A League of Their Own (1992) her fee for the role was far more than what the producers and budget could afford. She suggested her close friend Debi Mazar who agreed to accept the role for what the budget permitted. Ironically, Chris Penn who plays Floyd was actually the ex-brother in law of Madonna, as his brother Sean Penn was married to her at one time.
