While this production had part of a freeway closed for filming, R.E.M. took advantage and filmed some of the video for R.E.M.: Everybody Hurts (1993) there.
Patrick Swayze's alcoholism was at it's peak during the filming of this movie, at times even passing out whilst the cameras were rolling.
Jack Charles (Patrick Swayze) was inspired by the real-life person, Mike Hardy, who also served as a Technical Consultant to the production.
The bus kidnapping scene was almost perfectly recreated exactly to the finest detail except the real kids in the foster home were both girls, the daughters of Mike Hardy, whereas in the movie it is a boy and a girl.
