The French title for this film was "L'Avocat du Diable" which translates into the English language as "The Devil's Advocate".
Although the film is set in the USA in Chicago in the state of Illinois, where some exteriors and establishing shot were done, filming otherwise was done exclusively in Canada in Toronto in the province of Ontario.
Don Johnson replaced Alec Baldwin in the leading man role of David Edgar Greenhill. About six years later, Baldwin and leading lady Rebecca De Mornay would later both get to appear together in Thick as Thieves (1999).
Actress Rebecca De Mornay was cast in the leading lady role of Jennifer Haines in this film right off the back of starring in The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992) which had been a success at the box-office.
