New Zealand does not make a lot of horror movies when compared to other parts of the world, however this shortage stems from sheer infrequency rather than inability. The island country’s sparse contributions to the genre, from Braindead to What We Do in the Shadows, have largely proven to be as great as they are […]

“Sesame Street” is probably one of the few children’s shows that adults still get a kick out of it. The latest celebrity to help the “Sesame Street” Muppets teach kids is Zach Galifianakis. Zach and the Muppet Murray are helping children learn about the word “nimble” with the rhyme “Zach Be Nimble,” a take on “Jack Be Nimble.” I’ve watched tons of “Sesame Street” clips on YouTube, and every clip makes me laugh. This clip is no exception. The great thing about “Sesame Street” is that they still manage to maintain some level of recognition that yes, the kids might be watching the show to learn about the world, but [ Read More ]

Tiff’s Midnight Madness program turned 25 this year, and for two and half decades, the hardworking programers have gathered some of the strangest, most terrifying, wild, intriguing and downright entertaining films from around the world. From dark comedies to Japanese gore-fests and indie horror gems, the Midnight Madness program hasn’t lost its edge as one the leading showcases of genre cinema. In its 25-year history, Midnight Madness has introduced adventurous late-night moviegoers to such cult faves as Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused and Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. But what separates Midnight Madness from, say, Montreal’s three and half week long genre festival Fantasia, is that Tiff selects only ten films to make the cut. In other words, these programmers don’t mess around. Last week I decided that I would post reviews of my personal favourite films that screened in past years. And just like the Tiff programmers,...

According to Spoiler TV, the role of “Jack” is being cast for ABC’s Once Upon A Time and could be making his way to Storybrooke.
The role is being described as a man “…in his 20s or 30s, charismatic, sexy and mysterious, but also loyal and kind, and he’s running from his past in a land full of danger” and is a guest role with an option. Most people attribute this to being evidence that Jack from Jack And The Beanstalk fame would be joining the series, but there’s a million different Jack’s in fairy tales, nursery rhymes or Disney properties and what have you (Jack Be Nimble, Jack & Jill, etc.), so we’ll keep you abreast of any forthcoming details.
Once Upon A Time returns to ABC in the fall for its sophomore season, already with Mulan and Sleeping Beauty in tow.

For sportswriters, the big game means a clash of the titanic cliches-even if the teams don't look so super. How does Buzz Bissinger go the distance to give his 110 percent for Sunday in Big D?
It is the sportswriting version of the Bataan Death March, The Longest Yard with the score still tied, the Bridge to Nowhere.

It's always like this in the two weeks leading up the Super Bowl. Jack be Nimble Jack be Quick, stories about the Super Bowl are mostly shit.
Truth be told, you hit a dry gulch right off the bat. You know you don't have an arrow in the quiver. You know the word bag is as empty as Mother Hubbard's cupboard during a grocery strike. But a sportswriter has to do what a sportswriter has to do. When the going gets tough,...

Oh my Godtopus, was this the most boring episode yet? I think it must have been, because my brain kept drifting off to a fantasy land. A land where Gregory Itzin was strapping a pair of antlers (what did you think I was going to write?) onto Cherry Jones' head, and harnessing her to a giant sled filled with dead bodies. Also, Cherry might have been wearing a bustier and enjoying Greg's whip snapping. Anyway, Logan was clearly the best part of this episode, what with his successful proselytizing and induction of President Taylor into the Dirty Presidents Club. His sneering and smarmy manner remind me of a certain green fellow, but Itzin is so good at this that I actually hope Logan's heart will stay very, very, very small.
