In an early version of the movie there was a scene where Vitalstatistix opens his fly, pulls out a fish and asks Unhygienix to smell it, but Albert Uderzo (Asterix creator) hated the joke and asked for it to be removed.
It was produced in Germany, under the title of Asterix in Amerika, and is the first Asterix film to be produced outside France, which refers to it as Astérix et les Indiens.
In the comic book Asterix and the Great Crossing, the Native American Chief's daughter is a very minor character and is so unattractive that she is the main reason the Gauls decide to quickly return home (Obelix absolutely doesn't want to marry her). In this adaptation she plays a significant role, is portrayed as young and beautiful and has a (platonic) love story with Obelix.
The first film of Asterix series to use scenes computer.
The movie's plot is loosely adapted from the comic Asterix and the Great Crossing, with a number of changes to it.
