In December 1997, in the Weekend TV supplement of the Daily Mail, there was a scathing review of this movie, with a bomb image included meaning, "One to miss". The review read, "An example of what not to do when updating a film based on a veritable old play. Writer Ronald Harwood updates and goes for four-letter words in a hollow script, while director Mike Figgis thrashes around in the shallows."
