Chris O'Donnell, Kathy Bates, producer Jon Avnet and composer Thomas Newman re-teamed in the following year this film was made to join forces in Fried Green Tomatoes (1991).
Filming of this movie took place from July to September 1988. It was supposed to be released in 1989, but due to production delays, it was pushed back to early 1990.
Thomas Lennon auditioned for a role in this film, according to a 2013 interview on SplitSider.com. Lennon added: "It would have been a role played by some crazy hip kid."
