The film is similar to the Raj Kapoor and Nargis starrer Chori Chori (1956) which too was inspired by It Happened One Night.
This movie was Aamir Khan's third Best Actor nomination at the Filmfare Awards.
Gulshan Kumar had a falling out with Kumar Sanu. After that Gulshan Kumar pulled out all the Dil Hai Ki Manta nahin cassettes released in the market. He then re dubbed Kumar Sanu's songs with singer Babla Mehta. Later, Gulshan Kumar then decided once again to pull out with cassettes from the market and put back the original songs by Kumar Sanu. Gulshan Kumar retained a few songs sung by Babla Mehta.
