Over on the JoBlo Horror Originals YouTube channel, we talk about horror movies and TV shows all year long, but this is truly the most wonderful time of the year. For many of us, Halloween is our favorite holiday – and to celebrate, the staff at JoBlo Horror Originals has put together a new video to showcase some of our favorite horror movie quotes of all time. This ranges from cult classic lines we repeat to our friends in private to popular lines that are referenced in all of pop culture, and we’re getting into them all. Now, I’m sure there will be some notable exclusions, as we did have to abide by strict copyright rules, but we certainly did our best to include the best of the best. From “Get away from her, you bitch!” to “I have to return some video tapes,” (American Psycho) we’ve got...

Some cliche somewhere said that ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ This has proven to be the case for me and especially when it comes to fan art. I have always sought out great fan art and have wanted to share it with as many people as possible. “Awesome Art We’ve Found Around The Net” is the outlet for that passion. In this column, I will showcase the kick-ass artwork of some great artists, with the hopes that these artists get the attention they deserve. That’s the aim. The creation of Ernest P. Worrell, played by actor/comedian Jim Varney, was novel for an advertising-saturated age. The idea was that the character's creators -- John R. Cherry III, his business partner Jerry Carden, and Varney -- would farm out their pre-made mascot to whatever product or service that might want him, and Ernest would hawk their wares. He wasn't invented for any one particular business. He was invented to be a pitchman-for-hire, and the Ernest ads all followed a similar format, making the commercial spots low-budget and instantly universal. Ernest was hired by the Coca-Cola Company to sell Sprite, but would also appear in ads for local businesses like the Cerrito Auto Square. Ernest was very, very popular.
Eventually, the Ernest ads became so huge and ubiquitous that the character began to bleed over into feature films and TV shows. Ernest was a media personality writ large, living...

Bloody Disgusting is going to satisfy your nostalgia sweet tooth with the brand new Screambox Original Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls, which gives loving homage to classic gateway horror like Monster Squad, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Ernest Scared Stupid, and Beetlejuice.
First reported by Variety, Cinedigm announced today they have acquired all North American rights to the buzzed-about horror-comedy Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2023 Midnight Section to rave reviews.
Our very own Meagan Navarro attended the World Premiere, writing in her review that Onyx is an “endearing comedy-horror [that] embraces the ‘80s horror kid,” while RogerEbert.com called the film “a handmade horror gem.”
Based on writer, director and star Andrew Bowser’s viral internet character of the same name, Onyx tells the story of an amateur occultist who learns that sometimes when you raise Hell…you get a little burned.

As is tradition, the Golden Raspberry Awards announced its winners on the eve of the Oscars. The Razzies, now in their 41st year, are a tongue-in-cheek ceremony that “honor” the worst films of the year. Scroll down for the full list of winners (and nominees) in all nine Razzie Awards categories ranging from Worst Picture to Worst Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel.
Leading the 2021 Razzie Awards winners list is “Music,” Sia‘s ill-conceived film about the relationship between an autistic girl (Maddie Ziegler) and her newly sober half-sister (Kate Hudson). Sia won Worst Director while Ziegler, who is not autistic, and Hudson were singled out for acting dishonors.
“Music,” which was filmed in 2017, had been a surprise contender at the Golden Globes, earning bids for Best Musical/Comedy and for leading lady Hudson. Among those that Ziegler faced off against was Glenn Close for “Hillbilly Elegy,” who is also in contention at Sunday’s Oscars.

The Razzie Awards nominations for 2020 are here, recognizing the worst movies in a year that the Razzies acknowledge “sucked big time.” Robert Downey Jr. in “Dolittle” and Mike Lindell (aka the MyPillow guy) both landed Worst Actor nominations.
Downey Jr.’s “Dolittle” led all movies with six nominations, including Worst Picture. Lindell picked up a nod for his election conspiracy film “Absolute Proof,” which Oann aired — but only with a disclaimer that the details in the movie should be taken as opinions, not facts.
“Dolittle” was tied for the most nominations with the mafia film “365 Days,” which was also nominated for Worst Picture, Worst Actor (Michele Morrone) and Worst Actress (Anna-Maria Sieklucka).
Some other low lights of the Razzie nominations include perennial contender Adam Sandler, who was nominated for Worst Actor for “Hubie Halloween” and Worst Screen Combo for himself and “His Grating Simpleton Voice.”

Not recommended for anyone with a fear of clowns, 1988’s Killer Klowns from Outer Space has developed a cult reputation for its bizarre premise and special effects. While things have gone quiet recently on a proposed follow-up for Syfy and a long-gestating sequel, the original movie has recently been getting some renewed attention on Netflix. What’s perhaps overlooked about the Chiodo Brothers-produced film, though, is the sheer number of kills, something that ScreenRant have now picked up on, via YouTube channel Dead Meat.
Focusing on a race of evil space clowns who arrive in a small American town to wreak havoc, Killer Klowns from Outer Space features some grotesque creature designs, and an all-in commitment to pulling off some creative kills. The latter can be attributed to the Chiodo Brothers’ background in special effects, with the three brothers’ other credits including the likes of Critters and Ernest Scared Stupid.

No one is going to confuse the lead character of Roxanne Benjamin’s “Body at Brighton Rock” as some sort of hardened heroine. As timid park ranger Wendy, star Karina Fontes is already out of her depth when the retro-leaning horror feature kicks off, and that’s long before she stumbles upon a dead body in a remote patch of her state park. Things only get worse from there, as Benjamin’s feature directorial debut follows Wendy on a crash course to do the wrong thing at every possible opportunity.
“She does a lot of bone-headed things,” Benjamin said in a recent interview with IndieWire. “When people are like, ‘Ooh, she does so much stupid shit!’ I’m like, ‘Oh shit, I did all of those things.’ Besides finding the dead body, I’ve done literally all the things that happen in the movie.”

Horror is a deep-seated fandom often tracing back to childhood, a collection of formative years where our young minds are sponges, thirsting for our next greatest influence or obsession. When I was a kid, my mom nurtured my love of reading, often letting me gallivant around Waldenbooks in search of the latest Fear Street or Goosebumps release. But even before my mallrat days, I was hyped at the school book fair when I got my grubby little paws on the ultimate game changer, my gatekeeper to this world I still love: author Alvin Schwartz and artist Stephen Gammell’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.
Originally published in 1981, the book spawned two additional volumes: 1984’s More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and 1991’s Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones. Each book was an unsettling collection of children’s tales culled from old folklore and renowned urban legends.

Earlier this month, when Vanilla Ice announced via Twitter that he was boldly defying instructions to evacuate his Florida home in the face of Hurricane Matthew, it not only inspired what had to be the greatest (and possibly also the most depressing) tweet ever made by the Florida Democratic Party, but it also made one hope that it might really be a sneaky promo for an upcoming Weather Channel series wherein the rapper and reality TV star goes head to head with natural disasters.

Here, for your perusing pleasure, is a sampling of their favorites.

Halloween is upon us and, as is the case with most holidays, people are eager to get in the spirit by watching themed movies. The Salt City Horror Festival keeps getting better and better. We attended the horror film festival years ago, when just a handful of movies screened. Now, they have a lineup that features ten horror films all being shown from 35mm prints, including the original 13 Ghosts, Sleepaway Camp, Pumpkinhead, and more.
The event will take place on April 19th at The Palace Theater in Syracuse, New York. Doors open at 11:00am and the first film screens at noon. Alcohol is being served to those 21 years of age and older, and the lobby is said to be filled with vendors and a number of surprises. Here’s the full lineup of films that will be screening:
Lost Boys Invisible Man (original) 13 Ghosts (William Castle using Illusion-o vision viewers) Pumpkinhead John Carpenter’s Halloween 2 Candyman Sleepaway Camp Story Of Riki-oh Ernest Scared Stupid Jack Ketchum and Moderncine 2007 Horror Film: The Girl Next Door.

Halloween is right around the corner and what better way to keep your kids quiet than by sitting them in front of the television and making them watch something terrifying. If traumatising your kids isn’t for you (or more likely you don’t want to pay the therapy costs when they’re older) then there’s plenty of spooktacular movies out there that are perfect for your little devils this month.
It’s safe to say that today’s kids may not be as tough as we were when we were that age so why not drag out some of your all time favourites and see how well your little Asbo in training holds up against the things that went bump in the night when we were small. And if that’s too much for the bed wetter in your home then we’re sure you’ll find something...

I get made fun of quite a bit here on Cinelinx for not liking scary movies, especially because just about all my fellow contributors are such big fans of the horror genre. I just don't like them. I hate having things pop out at me, and I really don't have the stomach for blood and gore.

Earlier today we alerted you to the special Halloween screenings at the American Cinematheque. They aren't the only Halloween game in Los Angeles. Cinefamily has announced their 30 midnights program for Halloween. Last year the focus was on video nasties; this year it is the United States of Horror, a "cross-country death trip, with each night celebrating a different state of the Union, and regional horror filmmaking of all stripes. Whether it's unknown directors toiling away on backyard labors of love, or itinerant auteurs falling in love with and shooting an unfamiliar landscape as if it was their own, this series' thirty entries provide a vibrant overview of our nation's hidden horror history." Sounds way safer than taking an actual roadtrip.

In Conor McMahon’s Stitches, acclaimed British comedian Ross Noble plays Stitches Grindle, a hard-drinking mess of a clown whose destructive ways catch up with him at young Tom’s birthday party – leading to his accidental, violent death.
Six years later, Stitches returns from the dead to take revenge on the brats who put him six feet under… turning the tables on them as only a clown can.
In honor of Stitches hitting Blu-ray and DVD this Tuesday, April 2nd, we’ve decided to take a look back at cinema’s killer clowns through the years, and picked out a handful of our absolute favorites:

The storms on the east coast have proven powerful enough in some cases to make some government officials postpone Halloween to a later date, until it's safe again for trick or treaters, but for most people, October 31st will always be All Hallows' Eve.

It being the Halloween season and all I’ve naturally been going back over my horror movies and classic spooky fare. You know, classics like Monster Squad, Halloweentown and Ernest Scared Stupid.
The Ernest movies are, without a doubt, a product of their times and are unabashedly stupid. So naturally they make an obvious choice for a franchise ripe for a reboot. Variety reports that Ruckusfilm is ready to produce a new chapter in the series entitled Son of Ernest. Hey, it worked for Smurfs.

Do you remember the Ernest movies? If not, you likely weren't a child of the Eighties. I have vivid memories of watching Ernest Goes To Camp, Ernest Saves Christmas, Ernest Goes To Jail, and even Ernest Scared Stupid. These are not Oscar movies in any way, but they are stupid fun, especially for the kid in you. Ernest P. Worrell was played by the late Jim Varney who originated the role in regional commercials, national ads, and eventually a television show and movies. Ernest was a...

So, it looks like there's going to be another Ernest movie. Yes, that Ernest. The one from Ernest Goes to Camp, Ernest Saves Christmas, Ernest Goes to Jail, Ernest Scared Stupid, Ernest Rides Again, and a handful of direct-to-video releases. "Didn't Jim Varney, the man who played Ernest, die?" you are perhaps wondering. Yes, he did die, in 2000. That's why this new movie is Son of Ernest, which, according to Variety, will focus on the character's long-lost offspring. Just to be really clear, people are making a new Ernest movie.

So you’re a horror fan, but you’re on a budget. You like a little of everything from Hostel to Browning’s Dracula and the gamut that is run in between especially during the month of October. How do you pick up a respectable horror movie collection, quickly, spending as little money as possible? Mill Creek (not Wolf Creek or Boggy Creek). These guys put out a nice series of collections from the Drive In theater favorites to those rad 100 movie boxes you might find on the shelves of Walmart.
Make sure you take a gander at the selection below and stop by their website. We’ll have product reviews as we watch them and make sure you know what you’re getting inside each box. No matter what, you’ll be getting a pile of movies at a low price. I’m sure you’ll be able to...

Our month-long Schlocktober madness comes to an end with our celebration of everyone's favorite holiday, Halloween.
This week, to get us in the spirit of ghouls, goblins and jack-o-lanterns we take a look at three very different Halloween-themed films.
Up first, we see what happens when they try to make a Halloween sequel without Michael Meyers, but instead, with Tom Adkins, Stacey Nelkin, killer Halloween masks, corporate Irish super villains and their cyborg henchmen, when we examine Halloween III: Season of the Witch from 1982.
Then, we debate the merits of a nostalgic ghost story involving a young boy, a murder mystery and racial tension in the 1960's when we discuss Lady in White from 1988 starring a young Lukas Haas.
And finally, that lovable goofball is back, this time battling evil trolls and hamming it up with Ertha Kitt in the 1991 childrens' Halloween comedy Ernest Scared Stupid.
All this plus witty banter between friends,...

Strange Kid Comix Magazine #2 is a special Halloween themed issue from the man behind the Strange Kids Club, Rondal Scott III along with stories and art from contributors Glen Brogan, Aaron Klopp, Sean K. Dove, Neil Camera, Craig Collins, German Orozco, Brian Fyffe, Leigh Young, Andrew Barr, and Christine Larsen. This issue features eight horror inspired stories and an amazing interview with legendary illustrator and director David Hartman who also created the front cover for the issue.
As soon as I finished reading the introduction before I had even laid eyes on the first tale of terror, I knew that I was in for a real treat. Reminiscing about Octobers past Rondal Scott talks about a birthday sleepover he had that consisted of Castlevania and Ernest Scared Stupid and the impact it had on his life. Once again it is that time of the year, where ghouls and goblins lurk around every corner, and that weirdo you walk past on you’re way to work is ten times more stress inducing. October has arrived meaning Halloween will soon be following, my personal favorite time of the year. While I eat, sleep, and breath horror year around it is nice to have a full month where its perfectly normal to spend all your waking hours thinking about the ghastly and terror inducing bumps in the night without being looked at like a weirdo or being labeled as a Goth kid (not that there is anything wrong with Goth kids).
This is also the time of year where casual and die-hard horror fans a like go out of their way to watch large amounts of scary movies. Often this is also when various friends or friends of friends...

In the doldrums of August, it’s slim pickings for new DVDs and Blu-rays, as well as decent films in the theaters. Sure, we could give you a drinking game for Jodie Foster’s famous flop The Beaver, but that’s likely to put you in a depression in which you can only communicate with a hand puppet. Luckily, some true cinema classics are getting a new release. Jim Varney’s films Ernest Goes to Camp, Ernest Goes to Jail and Ernest Scared Stupid are getting their first Blu-ray release, and we invite you to toast with a glass of authentic Bulgarian miak. And now, to cover our butts… This game is only for people over the age of 21. Please drink responsibly, and don’t start monologuing to Vern, knowhutImean? Take A Drink When… Ernest falls down Ernest starts monologuing Someone yells or screams Someone gets hit in the face Take A Drink When You See… Fire...

They all had budgets, directors, hopes. But their fate was the same – to end up alone and unwanted in a discount bin. A moved Joe Queenan sets up an orphanage for forgotten films
At the convenience store up the street from my office stands a sad little rack filled with cut-rate DVDs. A sign proclaims "Great DVDs for less than $10", but that is false advertising. There are one or two movies on the rack that are not transparently awful – Shutter Island, Public Enemies – but almost without exception the DVDs, which cost $6.99 apiece, are bombs, duds, direct-to-video trash, flotsam and jetsam, bunkum, twaddle, slime and crap. Current fare includes Observe and Report, a Seth Rogen comedy about inept mall cops; Leaves of Grass, a goofy "comic thriller" starring Ed Norton as identical twins – one an addled drug dealer, one a professor of classics; The Six Wives of Henry Lefay, a comedy...

We've seen films about vampires, zombies and werewolves, but trolls? When considering the fairy tale beasts the first movies that come to mind are Troll 2 (which doesn't actually have trolls in it) and Ernest Scared Stupid, so clearly there's room for improvement and writer-director Andre Overdal seizes that opportunity with his second feature film, Trollhunter. After a series of strange occurrences in the forest, a Norway Wildlife Board official (Hans Morten Hansen) swoops in to put local hunters at ease, blaming the incidents on bears. However, a group of students know better and, armed with a video camera, take it upon themselves to investigate the situation. The local hunters point the kids in the direction of a supposed poacher named Hans (Otto Jespersen). When Hans refuses to give them a warm welcome, Thomas, Johanna and Kalle (Glenn Erland Tosterud, Johanna Morck and Tomas Alf Larsen) are left with no choice,...

So you're sipping your latte today, reading the entire 562 page novelization of the film "Ernest Scared Stupid" while at the NY Public Library when out of nowhere ghosts (people in white sheets) start marching in. As you head for cover underneath one of the historic tables you think the end is near but wait, what's that music!...
"Who you gonna call...Ghostbusters!" Thank God the "Ghostbusters" team (actors from the famed Improv Everywhere group) shows up to kick some ghosty white ass. An elaborate stunt punishable by jail time no doubt? Well that's not the case with this particular prank. The library actually asked the group to do this stunt.
The group said: "The library is facing serious budget cuts, and they thought having us do something awesome there might serve to remind people of how great the Nypl is. We couldn’t say no to the opportunity to do something in their gorgeous,...

If you watch a lot of television, particularly if you can't find your DVR remote, you're bound to see a lot of commercials, and in those commercials over a period of time, you're also likely to see some of the same actors rotate through different commercials for different products. (There was an interesting article on this phenomenon a few years ago on Slate, which I can't seem to find.) More often than not, you have no idea what that actor's name is, at least until you see him or her on a television show or up on the big screen, at which point you exclaim, "Hey! That's the guy from that commercial."
Today's Seriously Random List explores the always under-appreciated "guy from that commercial." It's not about famous actors who appeared in commercials before they were stars, or even current celebrities, like Sam Waterston, who are inextricably linked to a certain product.

For this week's final Halloween movies list, I decided to turn hit up the real superstars: my co-workers here in the MTV Newsroom who keep this great ship moving every damn day. After the jump you'll find recommendations and reminiscences from around the office. If you're game for some heavy reading, make sure to check out the last write-up, detailing Joel Hanek's pick: "Ernest Scared Stupid." Oh yes, he went there.
As for myself (MTV Movies Blog editor Adam Rosenberg), it's a toss-up. To this day I still have occasional nightmares relating to "Candyman," the Bernard Rose-directed, Virginia Madsen-starring horror flick based on a tale by novelist Clive Barker. There's something uniquely terrifying about the Candyman's ability to attack at any time, day or night. When horror can touch you even in the relative safety of sunlight, that's something to fear.

Ja/Fangoria: So let's begin with your work as a make-up artist for NBC's Saturday Night Live; tell me about the work you did for the show, how you became involved, the memories you have being around the cast of actors, and which seasons you were involved in.
AC: I wish I had been involved in the first few seasons of SNL, it was such a fertile time for the show. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I’m not quite that old. As it is, I watched those shows in Jr. High and High School, and now I have the DVD’s.

The idea of creating family friendly horror has been around for years. The 90's saw one of its biggest emergence with the highly popular Goosebumps and Fear Street book series and television series such as “Are You Afraid of the Dark” and the short lived “The Nightmare Room.” However, it was rare to see horror films that were considered family friendly without being combined with other film genres. Films like Ernest Scared Stupid combined the comedic with horror and Monster Squad combined the action, making these films suitable for younger film audiences. But what ever happened to straight out horror? More importantly, can a true horror film exist for younger audiences? This may be properly answered in the next few years. Two of today's well known directors have created film companies that will produce family friendly horror films soon to be seen in theaters or directly to DVD. Director Guillermo del Toro,...

'Harry Potter' and the Half-Blood Prince' is about as critic-proof as a movie can be (with the possible exception of 'Transformers 2,' of course). Reviewers could call it "'Ernest Scared Stupid' of fantasy films" (apologies to any 'Ernest' fans), and Potterheads would still flock to theaters in droves -- multiple times.
Luckily for fans, the sixth installment in J.K. Rowling's beloved boy wizard saga appears to be, for lack of a better word, spellbinding. In advance of the film's July 15 theatrical bow, early reviews are nothing short of glowing, and ticket sales are already outpacing those of the year's biggest earner to date, a little sleeper hit entitled 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.'
Long story short, 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' could be the year's highest-grossing movie And an Oscar contender (thanks for the 10 Best Pic nominees, Academy!). See what critics are...

The Final Chapter (read Part 2 here)! We have Howard the Duck, Freejack and Shyamalan flicks on the list; these are never good signs. Nonetheless we are bringing it all to you in full-color and in 3-D. (Ed. Note: Due to the economy, 3-D has been dropped and will be replaced by Smell-o-vision — check for your scratch and sniff cards in about 4-6 weeks.) Best Sound went to rage-zombie veterans Ian Tapp and Richard Pryke, leaving Mark Weingarten who worked on Rejuvenatrix in the dust. The Sound Editing section contains one too many references to Ron Silver, and at least two references to a Roger Corman film.
The visual effects category pulled on our heartstrings this year due to the loss of Stan Winston, who was noted en memoriam along with other heroes, Vampira, Leonard Rosenman and Charles H. Schneer...

Kids are fascinated with monsters and scary stuff, so why aren't there more good kid-friendly horror movies? With the exception of TV, I only found a handful, including such gems as Ernest Scared Stupid (1991), Hocus Pocus (1993) and The Haunted Mansion (2003). On the plus side, there's The Watcher in the Woods (1980), Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983) and The Witches (1990). The problem is pretty obvious: these movies are either too scary or too stupid, and the middle ground is a very thin line. So if nothing else, writer Chris McKenna and director Anthony Leondis, both making their big-screen debut with Igor, have conjured an uneasy way to pull it off, even if the experience will be radically different for both parents and kids.
Igor is set in a perpetually cloudy kingdom where mad scientists compete in the annual "evil science fair." The winner's diabolical creation will be used to blackmail the rest...
