Maria Bonnevie in The Polar Bear King (1991)

Trivia

The Polar Bear King

Edit
The story of the king coming to his bride at night so she cannot see him, and her sisters convincing her to use a lantern to see him (which has negative consequences), is based of the Greek story of god Éros (Cupid) and his bride Psyché, which was also the basis for "Beauty and the Beast".
The Norwegian actors spoke in Norwegian and the Swedish actors spoke in Swedish. Spoken Norwegian and spoken Swedish are mostly mutually intelligible. King Valemon was portrayed by Tobias Hoesl, a German actor, dubbed in Swedish by Steve Kratz.
Polar bear (Ursus maritimus) is "isbjörn" in Swedish and "isbjørn" in Norwegian and Danish, literally meaning "ice-bear". "Hvitbjørn" and "kvit[e]bjørn" are dialectal words in Norway, literally meaning "white-bear", the former being used in Norwegian Bokmål and the latter in Norwegian Bokmål and Nynorsk. Bokmål ("Book-Tongue" or "Book-Speech") is an official written standard for the Norwegian language, alongside Nynorsk, and is the most preferred written standard of Norwegian for the population in Norway. Nynorsk ("New Norwegian") is less formal and less influenced by Danish. The difference between Bokmål and Nynorsk, however, is mostly the written spelling, and they are mutually intelligible versions of the Norwegian language.
