Nad rzeka, której nie ma

I saw "Nad rzeka, ktorej nie ma" (By the river that isn't there) on Polish TV years after it was released. I am in a different age group than the characters in the film, but I was attracted to it because of its high ratings and the fact that the plot takes place in a small provincial town in the 1960s. I was a teenager in a small provincial town in the 1970s, so it was close enough to get me interested. The film's main characters are four friends: Admiral (Marek Bukowski), Ataman (Tomasz Hudziec), Chief (Miroslaw Baka), and Pasha (Andrzej Mastalerz). The boys wander the streets of the town, drink, and make mischief at village parties or dream at the train station. One day, Admiral's attention is drawn to Marta (Joanna Trzepiecinska), a young student from the student camp. I wasn't really paying that much attention to the plot, but I was really charmed by this fine and atmospheric film, which brought back the memories of my teenage years. I liked the performances of the young actors and think that film director Andrzej Baranski did a great job.
