Casting director Sheila Guthrie recommended that the creators of Frasier (1993) should invent a part for David Hyde Pierce in part because of his physical resemblance to Kelsey Grammer. She left them with tapes of this series, and they were so dazzled by his performance that they devised the role of Niles Crane explicitly for him.
This marked John Forsythe's final on-camera live action role. All of his other projects during the remainder of his career were voice only roles.
Cloris Leachman guest-starred as John Forsythe's mother in two episodes of the show. In real life, she was eight years younger than him.
