Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Jim Varney in Slam Dunk Ernest (1995)

Trivia

Slam Dunk Ernest

Edit
When Ernest and his team are playing against others, check out the names: Kikakee Fish (Kikakee was the name of the camp in Ernest Goes to Camp (1987)), Tulip Brothers Hardware (Tulip was the last name of Tom and Bobby in Ernest Scared Stupid (1991); they sold hardware), and Trantor Dairy (Trantor was the name of the troll in Ernest Scared Stupid (1991), who was defeated by milk).
Director John Cherry was having trouble getting Kareem Abdul Jabbar to 'emote' during his scenes. Cherry later said about him, "He's a nice guy, but I've never met anyone that had no personality... none".
The last Ernest film to be distributed by Touchstone Home Video. The Ernest crew had some difficulties with Disney; then they kind of got patched up. Disney offered home video distribution of the film.
Originally produced as a made-for-TV movie for ABC. After production, it was changed to a direct-to-video release. This film actually had an airing on ABC in June 1998 as part of The Wonderful World of Disney.
In an original draft of the film, Chuck and Bobby are featured as spies who are after Ernest and the magic shoes. Auntie Nelda also was in the original script (as an actual person, not Ernest in disguise). She would've been in the stands watching the game, then get accidentally shot in the neck by Bobby with a tranquilizer dart. She would've been unharmed thanks to her neck brace.
