In an Archive of American Television interview, Malcolm-Jamal Warner revealed that making this show frustrated him. He felt that the show's producers were pandering to Black stereotypes in order to cater to UPN's urban audience, and after his experience with 'The Cosby Show' (1984), he thought that was unnecessary; they could do better. Despite this, and tensions between him and co-star Eddie Griffin, he stayed on, hoping that the show's modest success would guarantee a good syndication deal once the show reached 100 episodes. Unfortunately, it was canceled 11 episodes short of that goal.
The series took place in Eddie Griffin's hometown of Kansas City, Missouri.
