The film was originally called "Stranger Things".
John Amos had previously starred in the television situational comedy Good Times (1974), which was a spinoff of Maude (1972) starring Bea Arthur. Amos had appeared as Henry Evans on three episodes of the latter sitcom before the former sitcom premiered.
Jason Alexander, Robert Costanzo, and James Woods all would go on to provide their voice talents for various recurring characters in Disney's Hercules (1998).
In this film, James Woods played Jason Alexander's younger brother. However, in real life, Woods is actually 12 years older than Alexander.
In a 2001 interview with "Emmy TV Legends," Bea Arthur said that she refused screen credit for this film because she felt that the part wasn't very important and that she didn't do a great job with it.
