Carlo Verdone stated that he got the idea for this movie during a promotional tour in Belgium with actress Claudia Gerini, one of his co-stars in the successful Viaggi di nozze (1995). Verdone, who got along very well with Gerini in the first movie, was so impressed by the Belgian atmosphere that he wanted to set a film there.
The character of Iris Blond was originally named Iris Love. An American archaeologist with the same name forbade them to use the name, so the filmmakers had to choose between the names Iris Blue or Iris Blond.
In the last scene where Carlo Verdone sings as The Freezer, he is dubbed by Italian singer Andrea Chimenti.
Nello Mascia, who plays Iris' father Vincenzo in this film, would go on to play the father of Claudia Gerini's character in Nove lune e mezza (2017).
