The score was recorded at Paramount Studios with a 75-piece orchestra. A smaller orchestra of about 40 recorded additional music at Capitol Studios, Hollywood. The score was orchestrated conducted by Roger Bellon.

Marlon Brando reportedly turned down the title role in The Big Lebowski (1998) to work on this mini-series; communicating to the Coen brothers (sometime early-Winter 1996, while in pre-production) he wasn't interested in doing any movies, at least not in the immediate future.
