Akshaye Khanna and Anjala Zaveri in Himalay Putra (1997)

Trivia

Himalay Putra

Edit
Film debut of Akshaye Khanna.
During the making of the movie, Vinod Khanna and Tinnu Verma got into a major argument. Vinod told Tinnu that it was stars who the public paid to see. Without stars, the industry would be no where. Tinnu argued that it was the technicians that made stars look good and without them the industry and its stars would be nothing. After fighting about this,Vinod finally realized he was wrong. When Vinod Khanna received his lifetime achievement award, he stated with out technicians film stars would be nothing.
For Vinod Khanna's Himalayaputra, art director Nitin Desai had constructed a mammoth piece of art - a 40-feet high statue of Lord Shiva. As many as 72 skilled workers were involved in its construction for twelve days. Made of fibre glass, the colossal and costly statue was transported by road to Dalhousie where the film is being shot in a 40-day schedule.
Anjala Zaveri stated "We used to watch a lot of Hindi films on video cassettes bought from a small Pakistani shop in London. The world of Hindi cinema was always intriguing, sort of because my parents like to keep in touch with Indian things. The glam and the way things were shown in films was always mesmerising, but I was more focused on studies. The family would make trips to India every four-five years to visit their extended family. When I was around 16, late actor Vinod Khanna made a trip to England since he was searching for a female actor to cast opposite his son, Akshaye. He announced it on the only two Indian mediums there - Sunrise radio and Zee TV. I landed my first interview with him and the model agency person. Some 16-17 models had turned up there, I was the only one with my father! I was so nervous during the interview that I kept my mouth shut! Then they came and asked if I had more . Since the pics from the shoot had turned out well, I handed over a bunch to them. It was a 10-day competition... and later, I got a call back from Vinod Khanna saying, "Please get Anjala's passport ready, we are taking her to India'. It was my summer break, I had finished my exams, so literally, within a month or two, I left. My mom came with me. However, her family was not so keen though on me joining films. Everything was very new and I was left amazed. My parents were not really "gung ho" about sending me to India. Even if I was going to be chaperoned by a parent. They had preconceived notions in their head," she revealed.
Vinod Khanna was a judge at a modeling beauty contest in Florida, USA, when he saw Bipasha Basu. He wanted to launch her with Akshaye Khanna. She felt she was too young and declined the offer.
