The playing cards used in this movie are Bicycle Playing Cards manufactured by the USPC. This is the first time in a Hong Kong movie that Bicycle Playing Cards received a lot of screen time. Usually, Bee Playing Cards are used and Bicycle is only used for a few minor sequences.
This prequel is the second film in the franchise to have the the English title of God of Gamblers 3 although it is the only one to have the Chinese title of God of Gamblers 3. God of Gamblers Part III: Back to Shanghai (1991) is was inappropriately and confusingly given the English title of God of Gamblers Part III when the Chinese title literally translates to Knight of Gamblers II. It is a direct sequel to God of Gamblers II (1990) which was inappropriately and confusingly given the English title of God of Gamblers II when the Chinese title literally translates to Knight of Gamblers and it is a spin-off of both All for the Winner (1990) and God of Gamblers (1989), taking characters from both. Additionally, the Chinese title of The Return of the God of Gamblers (1994) literally translates to God of Gamblers 2 and is the direct sequel to God of Gamblers (1989). Even the Chinese title of Knight of Gamblers II is somewhat inappropriate because neither the Knight of Gamblers nor the God of Gamblers appear in that film at all. Instead, that film focuses on the character of Chow Sing Cho who is the Saint of Gamblers.
