In Denmark, the film was so successful that it ended up making more money in the country than Jurassic Park (1993) did.
The picture in the guards room, is of Lewis Thornton Powel a.k.a. Lewis paine/payne, a co-conspirator in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
The film influenced the number of Danish organ bequests to the Medical Anatomical Institute at the Panum Institute. By May 1997, over 100 people had withdrawn their organ wills. Professor Morten Møller strongly deplored the film's distorted image of doctors, students and researchers' treatment of body parts, and he stated: "The movie 'Nightwatch' has certainly not had a positive effect on us. I don't know what people imagine. That we should be sexually interested in the dead and want to lie down on their bed? A crazy fantasy that has not the slightest hold in reality."
