But when “Deadpool & Wolverine” casting director Sarah Halley Finn came across the British actor — best known for the films “My Policeman” and “Lady Chatterley’s Lover” and playing Princess Diana on “The Crown” — she knew she had found someone who could hold their own opposite the film’s stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as Cassandra Nova, the villainous twin sister of Charles Xavier.

Boris Lojkine’s The Story Of Souleymane and Sandhya Suri’s Santosh were among the winners of the 41st edition of the Jerusalem Film Festival this week.

The Story Of Souleymane won the best international film award in the International Competition. The jury praised “a film full of humanity, masterfully crafted, that never hits a false note.” Lojkine’s film, about a Paris food delivery cyclist preparing for his legal residency interview, debuted in Un Certain Regard at Cannes in May.

They finally did it. Just moments into the premiere episode of the new series "The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live," right after audiences catch a glimpse of hero Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) for the first time in over five years, the poor man finally loses a hand.

It's a twist that's been a long time coming for fans of Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard's "Walking Dead" comic books, yet this new spinoff series manages to make it feel utterly shocking nonetheless. In the original comics, cop-turned-world-weary apocalypse survivor Rick gets a surprise amputation courtesy of The Governor as early as issue 28. In the AMC "Walking Dead" universe, however, The Governor came and went an entire decade ago, with David Morrisey in the role of the eye-patch-wearing villain.

The Walking Dead might be coming to an end soon, with several spin-offs in the making, despite the recent news that Melissa McBride, who plays Carol, has exited the spin-off she was set to appear in alongside Norman Reedus (Daryl). Every season of the show to date has introduced a new primary antagonist, including Lance Hornsby in the final season 11. From The Governor's beheading of Hershel to Negan bashing Abraham and Glenn in their heads, each has been a brutal enemy.

Some other conflicts on both The Walking Dead and its first spin-off Fear the Walking Dead, however, involve individuals going head-to-head versus leaders of groups finding Rick or Madison/Morgan and their respective groups. In these cases, rivalries between the two individuals drew out much longer, and were intense. Not surprisingly, a few involve the same men, like Negan. But there are others as well.

If there’s one thing The Walking Dead has proved lately, it’s that a character having met their final end is no barrier to them reappearing in the franchise, and not just as a member of the shambling undead.

David Morrissey, who memorably portrayed the Governor in seasons 3 and 4, has expressed interest in returning as a part of the movies planned to take place within the show’s world. In a recent interview, he said:

“They’re doing movies and in some of them they might be doing origin stories, and I would love it if they were doing mine. I haven’t got any inside information, I loved doing the show and loved doing the part. If they wanted me to go back I would. There are three great novels [about the Governor] and I think they would make great movies. If they wanted to, they could go back to before...

Hearing a showrunner's public declaration that he's "sick of" your character would put the willies up most actors, prompting a few frantic calls to the agent. "Hi, it's David here, tell Strictly to bump Rustie Lee; I'll do it".

Not David Morrissey though, whose role as The Governor in The Walking Dead is far from over. Scott Gimple may be sick of him, but that doesn't mean he's out of favour with the show's executive producers, "It's not that we don't like that character; it's just that we needed to give that character a break" says Robert Kirkman. "Going right back into that would seem like more retread of season three, and that's the thing we don't want to do."

Exclusive: Acclaimed British TV writer-producer Lynda La Plante, creator of Prime Suspect, is set to develop Villains of All Nations, a drama series for Lionsgate TV based on historian Marcus Rediker’s book about the “Golden Age” of piracy in the 17th and 18th centuries. The project is described as a "modern, bold and gritty interpretation of the genre," using Redkier's book as a springboard. Lionsgate TV Group president Kevin Beggs said the company had been looking to work with La Plante for a while. “Not only is she a brilliant writer, she happens to have a longtime love and knowledge of the subject matter, and we believe she can achieve exactly the kind of ‘Deadwood on the high seas’ sensibility we’re looking for," he said.
