Charles Band found out about the production and called director David DeCoteau to buy the film. After the first screening, someone from Band's office took one look at the mostly male nudity, called DeCoteau, and blatantly asked him, "Are you gay?"

The script was originally titled Succubus, but was changed to Dreamaniac when production began, to cash in on the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.
The script contained plenty of male and female nudity. When filming commenced, most of the actresses refused to fulfill the nudity requirements, whereas the actors were all very comfortable with it. As a result, the film contains more male than female nudity.
