Shah Rukh Khan has said that he hasn't seen the film yet as he doesnt want to watch his first and last films.
At one point Armaan Kohli was signed for Shahrukh Khan's role. But a major fight with the producer, Shabnam Kapoor, resulted in him being dropped from the film. Armaan had signed a two picture deal with Shabnam. One film was Deewana, the other was Insaaf Ki Devi (1992). Armaan Kohli's father, Raj Kumar Kohli, insisted that Shabnam retain Armaan in both films or else he would walk out of both. Shabnam then decided to drop Armaan from both films.
Deewana's music album was the highest selling film soundtrack of 1992.
Sunny Deol was the first choice for Shah Rukh Khan's role. When Sunny Deol opted out, his father, Dharmendra recommended young newcomer Shah Rukh Khan to his cousin, Guddu Dhanoa.
Shah Rukh was not sure about signing the film because the producers were new. He did not know if the film was a A grade setup or B grade setup. It was only when Rishi Kapoor was signed that Shah Rukh decided to do the film. Shah Rukh and Vivek Vaswani loved the films music and thought the film might be special.
