Soleil Moon Frye, Mark Kassen, and Ari Meyers in The Killing Secret (1997)

Trivia

The Killing Secret

Edit
This movie is loosely based on the murder of Jeanette Garcia of San Antonio, Texas. She was reported missing on February 12, 1993. She was 15 years old and approximately 3 months pregnant at the time of her death. She was kidnapped and tortured for 12 days before she was strangled. Her body was discovered by a road crew off of Highway 46 in Canyon Lake, Texas.
Jeanette Garcia is the 15-year-old girl on which this film is based. She was murdered in 1993 and the case remained unsolved for 28 years. On September 10, 2021, U.S. Marshals arrested 50 year-old Thomas Ray Galindo for her murder. At the time he was a 21-year-old acquaintance of hers. At the time of this writing, he is still awaiting trial.
Ari Meyers, who plays a teen, was nearly 30 when the movie was being made.
At around 47:19 in, Soleil Moon Frye's character Emily is supposed to be dead but her eyelids twitch slightly.
It is set in the contemporary time rather than 1993. For example, one of the characters has a poster of Ministry's album "Filth Pig" in their room; this was released a few years after the Jeanette Garcia case happened.
