Trivia

Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm

Edit
The character of Quan Chi appeared in this show before he ever appeared in any video game.
This series was focused at a younger audience, which is unusual, given that most Mortal Kombat games receive M for Mature 17+ ratings.
Strangely, when most of the Lin Kuei ninjas appeared on the show, they did not wear a mask.
The series was intended as a "sequel" of sorts to the Mortal Kombat (1995) movie (identifiable by the fact that many characters flash back to events that happened during it). However, the second movie, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997), disregards this animated series altogether, and serves as a direct sequel.
Kung Lao, Johnny Cage, Mileena, Jade, Sindel, Noob Saibot, Goro, Khameleon, Chameleon and Kintaro were not shown or referenced in the show at all, although Noob does make a brief appearance as the Elder Sub-Zero in a flashback. Also Baraka and Reptile are not mentioned, but two similar characters appear as replacements.
