The Abashiri family name was taken from the Abashiri Prison, a maximum-security prison constructed in the 19th century and still in use.
Kikonosuke fights a school teacher named Madamoiselle Honey. This is a parody of 'Go Nagai's own heroine Cutie Honey. Interestingly, Cutie Honey is often assisted by Denbei Hayami, who is based on Daemon Abashiri.
