Shopping for Fangs (1997) is an independent black comedy movie directed by Justin Lin in his feature film directorial debut and it was pretty good.
Positives for Shopping for Fangs (1997):
It was interesting to watch a black comedy movie from the guy who directed a number of the Fast & Furious movies. The cast is really good here with Radmar Jao, Jeanne Chin, Clint Jung, Lela Lee and John Cho. You get some wacky plotlines with the characters that are so insane they could only exist in a movie like this. And finally, the movie has some moments that had me smiling and laughing.
Mixed for Shopping for Fangs (1997):
This is a strange movie for two different reasons. First off, Justin Lin directing a movie like this is just bizzare and it could've been made by anyone. Second, this movie is bold with its story, but it is going to be too strange for some people.
Negatives for Shopping for Fangs (1997):
The movie doesn't feel like it has anything going for it aside from the strangeness of the plot. There are moments that are so hilariously awkward that it felt like a bad joke. And finally, the movie is nothing more than random stuff happening for reasons.
Overall, Shopping for Fangs (1997) is a decently made and interesting directorial debut for Justin Lin and I would recommend this to my fellow fans of Justin Lin as a filmmaker.
