    Tim & Eric's Aladdin

I saw this as a Rifftrax, and their mockery aside, this is a pretty weak version of Aladdin. As others have said, the concept of a Chinese Aladdin true to the original story is something you don't see often and is for that reason remarkable. On the other hand, the sets are cheap and crummy looking and the songs are mostly bad. I think the only one I really liked was the one sung by the wizard when they were going to get the lamp. Barry Bostwick is definitely having fun here, mugging it up the whole time. The special effects are also something else, they really do look like the kind of stuff Tim and Eric use. I checked IMDB for a cast list and was surprised at the notable careers of some these actors, the wizard won a Tony for Man of La Mancha and the Princess voiced Rose Quartz in Steven Universe.

    What?

No Chinese or Middle Eastern actors were used to depict the Chinese and Middle Eastern characters in this movie. I guess the basis of the story of Aladdin is somewhat confusing, which translates to this confused production.

It is embarrassing to watch, especially, the casting of Aladdin, Mrs. Chang, Princess Mei Ling, and Fatima. I mean no slight to the actors, I think they would be fine in other roles. Sorry for leaving anyone out.

For your sanity, I suggest only watching the Riff Trax version of this flick as having people watching this show along with you, while making fun of it, is comforting.

    What were they thinking???

Laughable attempt at a live action Aladin, this poorly conceived "movie" is more akin to a cheap saturday morning kids show than an actual film version of a play. Imagine Aladdin in china with EVERY characters played by VERY white american actors, including the emperor which looks like a sloppy overweight redneck. The musical numbers and cringe-worthy but the actors do a fine job with the material they had. Rightfully forgotten.

    • Trivia
Although the original tale of Aladdin is Arabic, this filmed stage takes place in ancient China. To avoid any possible confusion with the original (Arabic) version, the title was changed to "Aladdin in China" when broadcast on TV in Europe.
