This soap opera was based on Brazilian writer Carolina Nabuco's (1890 -1981) novel 'A Sucessora', written in 1934. During its first run, several people mistakenly believed that this plot was based on Daphne Du Maurier's 'Rebecca' (published in 1938), which later inspired Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca (1940).
The series opening shows a sequence of original postcards from the 1920s.
