Among the celebrities spoofed in this short were Bing Crosby, popular band leader Ben Bernie, Eddie Cantor, Joe Penner, Kate Smith, Ed Wynn, and George Givot. Adult cinema audiences would have recognized both the characters portrayed and the inside jokes they provided.
The opening scene is reminiscent of Dickens' time, although the toys shown are decidedly 1930's in design.
The blocks in the toyshop window spell "TV," although modern television was still in the early stages of becoming a staple in most homes. The first commercial network had been launched in 1928.
