Kamal Hassan stated the film was a disaster while filming. Things went haywire from the word go. There was no team work, it was everyone for himself. Raaj Kumar would constantly interfere with the script and scenes.
When the director approached Hema Malini for the film, he told her he was going to cast either Dilip Kumar or Sanjeev Kumar for the older role. Hema told him she did not want to work with him. For some reason Dilip Kumar also rejected the film. It was Hema Malini who kept insisting that Raaj Kumar be signed for the film or she would not sign the film.
When Suresh Oberoi signed the film he went to the media stating he signed a film opposite Padmini Kholapure. This upset Padmini to the point where she asked the director to make an official statement that she was cast opposite Raaj Kumar and not Suresh Oberoj.
Producer Tutu Sharma was helping Gulshan Grover find work in those days. He arranged a meeting for Gulshan Grover to meet the film's producer. Tutu told Gulshan he would get to romance Hema Malini in a few scenes. Gulshan thanked him but told him he did not want to do any hero roles. Kamal Haasan was later then signed for the role.
