For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit the ambitious small screen project “Roger Corman Presents,” which aired from 1995 through 1999 on Showtime.
Not many remember this, but back in the nineties, the cable network Showtime was extremely centered on science fiction and horror genre fare. They were the original launch pads for “Stargate Sg-1” and “Poltergeist: The Legacy” before they became syndication mainstays. Hell, even their marketing was catered to the science fiction and horror aesthetic.
Like Cinemax, Showtime sought to work out distribution deals while releasing their own original films for primetime and late night slots. While Cinemax and HBO worked with Stan Winston, Showtime collaborated with the one and only Roger Corman. With him and his studio Concorde Pictures, they would produce a series of low budget films that would air over the course of two seasons. The Disney Channel is currently on the trend of featuring strong female characters in their TV shows. News series such as The Villains Of Valley View and Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion feature leads with great literal strength.
However, strength is not just a physical trait. It can also be of mind and emotion. When looking back on the history of the channel, Disney has featured a lot of powerful girls and women in their shows, all exhibiting strength in their own unique ways.

If you're a fan of family sitcoms and the superhero genre, you'll adore Disney's Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion.
Lucifer's Scarlett Estevez will star as a teen who gets magical powers from a Luchadora mask and opts to do good while working alongside her uncle with a similar secret identity. Of course, she'll have to juggle school, family, and keeping her identity a secret from her helicopter mom, Nina.
TV Fanatic had the distinct pleasure of speaking with talented actress, activist, and the "helicopter mom" in question, Marianna Burelli, about the significance of this role and how fun the series is. Check it out below!
Jumping right in. Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion looks like a really fun series. Can you tell us a little bit about the concept and all?

I remember when I became the showrunner of my first live-action series, “Supah Ninjas,” I thought I had arrived.
Somehow, against all odds, this show I created with my partner Eric S. Garcia was shooting on the Paramount lot. On the same stage as “Family Ties.” I was officially a part of Hollywood history. When I set foot on stage, I was surprisingly whisked away by an A.D. “Surely,” I thought, “I was being taken to my fancy director’s chair that would make a killer humble-post on my socials.” But instead, I found myself in the holding area with the extras. I learned two things that day. I did not look like someone’s idea of a showrunner. And the holding area is hard to leave.
It was a good reminder that perception shapes reality – and you can literally be trapped by someone else’s perception. It’s...

From Godzilla to Gamera to spiders to giant diaper men, the Satellite of Love has a long history making fun of big monsters.
With around 200 episodes, Mystery Science Theater 3000 has covered so many sub-sections of movies. They have Japanese superhero movies, old timey movies about juvenile delinquents, way too many “movies” that are just two episodes of a TV show edited together, and so on. One of these staples is the good, old fashioned giant monster movie.
Godzilla, Gamera, and their many knockoffs have shown up on the Satellite of Love throughout the years...though strangely mostly in season 3. With Godzilla: King of the Monsters here, it's time to take a look at the kaiju movies MST3K has to offer.
The problem is figuring out what movies I would personally consider a kaiju showcase. There are a lot of movies with dinosaurs and stuff, but...

Roger Corman’s sons filed a lawsuit on Tuesday seeking to block the sale of his film library, arguing that the titles actually belong to an irrevocable trust.
The suit is part of an estate fight that has been going on for a decade. On March 15, Shout! Factory and China-based Ace Films announced they had purchased 270 titles from Roger and his wife, Julie Corman, for an undisclosed price.
The titles include “Rock ‘n’ Roll High School,” “Battle Beyond the Stars,” “Piranha,” “Galaxy of Terror,” “Bloodfist,” “Black Scorpion,” “Eat My Dust!,” “Humanoids From the Deep,” “The Slumber Party Massacre,” and “Forbidden World.”
The two Corman sons — Roger M. and Brian — allege that their mother has worked for more than 10 years to undermine their father’s estate plan, which was established to minimize tax liabilities. They contend that Roger, who is 91, and Julie have ignored their obligations to the trust set up for the children’s benefit.

Audiences are getting accustomed to Chris Pine as the newJames T. Kirk in J.J.
