The movie is inspired by the life of the communist and fighter of the Spanish Civil War, Hans Beimler, his second wife Centa and their two children. Director Gunter Friedrich personally talked with Centa Beimler before the movie.

Goofs
In the movie filming scene at the beginning of the movie it is announced that Adolf Hitler became chancellor of the German Reich. The movie in question is "Hitlerjunge Quex" and wasn't filmed until April/May 1933 but Hitler became chancellor at 30th January 1933.
