In early 1990's B.R.Chopra launched 3 films together:- Kabhi To Milenge, which was being directed by Ravi Chopra and all the songs were recorded by music composers Shiv-Hari (Yash Chopra's regular)but the film was later shelved, Kal Ki Awaz and the other was Baghban to be directed by B.R.Chopra with Dilip Kumar. But Dilip Kumar wanted to concentrate on his film Kalinga so, Baghban was shelved. This same film B.R.Chopra wanted to make with Dilip Kumar since 1973 during Dastaan 1972 days. Baghban was finally made after 30 years by Ravi Chopra with Amitabh Bachchan. So, out of 3 films only Kal Ki Awaz was made and after Kal Ki Awaz B.R.Films, didn't make feature films for 10 years till 2003 when B.R.Chopra's son Ravi Chopra made Baghban with Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini.
The film had a theatrical release in Canada.
The film had superhit songs that are still popular but couldn't perform well at the box office.
This movie contains 3 songs blatantly copied from Pakistan. "Kisi Meherbaan" from Shama and "Kar Na Sake Pyar ka Sauda" is lifted tune/lyrics of songs of the same name. "Tumhari Nazron" is lifted from "Hamari Sanson" by Noor Jehan. Years later some comparisons were made with the song "Besharam Rang" from Pathaan. The second stanza was similar to the songs in Shama and Kal Ki Awaaz.
When Dr. Rahi Masoom Reza got the story idea and worked on the script of this film, he was very excited and was waiting to see the film. So the shooting of this film was completed fast, but unfortunately Dr. Rahi Masoom Reza didn't live to see this film.
