Magic's first sidekick, stand-up comedian Craig Shoemaker, was let go after the third episode. He was followed by Steve White, then Tommy Davidson. Sheila E. remained the band leader throughout the entire eight-week run.
The show has become known as a late night television catastrophe equal with The Chevy Chase Show, which also aired on FOX.
