Dark, action-packed and full of suspense

I remember seeing the occasional episode of Gundam Wing on Toonami as a kid, but I never truly watched this program. I was given all the episodes on DVD a few years back and finally got round to watching this at the grand old age of 25. Long story short, I am so glad I did! This show was excellent. The story was deep, and I mean DEEEEEP. Each character had its own back story that we slowly learn about as the series progresses. It made us understand more about the main protagonists of the show, along with the enemies. I really felt as thought I knew each of the main characters by the end and it made us feel for them as they had to carry out their respective missions.

The battles were incredible as well. Truly action-packed. The only thing that grated on me was that the Gundams were technically indestructible, being made of "Gundanium alloy". It is sort of reminiscent of Avatar and "unobtainium". That combined with the fact that the other mobile suits (aside from the main ones) were about as useful as star troopers in Star Wars meant that the battles were always one-sided and predictable. Still, lots of explosions made up for this!

All in all, I would highly recommend this show. I am going to start watching the other Gundam series and see if they are as good (if not, better). I have heard good things and I look forward to them!

    Good watch

I remember watching Gundam Wing on television years ago, but only recently did I watch it with my full attention. I watched all episodes including Endless Waltz, and came to the conclusion it is a worthwhile watch. It takes a few episodes for the story to really pick up, but once it gets going it follows true to the Gundam franchise and leads towards an epic conclusion. I do have some minor complaints that do not diminish my opinion much, such as the occasional repetition of certain scenes, but do not let this throw you off. Gundam Wing is actually the reason as to how I initiated into my love of Gundams, and I am quite glad that it did so. The characters are likable in their own ways, and it is clear that they represent certain ideals, but the Gundam designs is really where it is at. If you enjoy watching mobile suits fight with unique designs, a plot which does not seem all too far-fetched, then this is a good watch for you. I cannot review full marks, but a still good 9/10

    Better than Mobile Suit Gundam

Well, Gundam Wing is the best Gundam series I've ever seen, because the gundams are a lot better than the gundams from Mobile Suit Gundam. The characters are really cool.

For example I have some things to say about them: Heero Yuy is the main character of the show and he's like one of the best characters, Duo is the all-American funny guy, he is very funny most of the time in every episode, Trowa is very silent and the first time he appeared he was a guy without a name, Quatre is like the youngest of the pilots, I think that most people say that he is gay and some others say that his main woman is Dorothy, Chang Wufei is the coolest character and he's the strongest of the pilots. My favorite gundams are: Heavyarms, Shenlong and Deathscythe, Wing Zero is my favorite too.

Relena, oh her name strikes the fear of men, she felt in love with Heero at first glance, gosh some ppl hate her.

This is a great show, it even shows the rivalry of Zechs and Heero, just like the rivalry between Amuro Ray and Char Aznable.

    I give this show a 10/10

    One of The Greatest...

This was one of the first anime's I ever saw...I remember staying up late to watch it unedited on Cartoon Network.

The story follows Heero Yuy, a young asassin trained to pilot a Gundam Mobile Suit. Him and his team of other Gundam pilots, Duo, Trowa, Quatre, and Chang, against the corrupt and oppressive Earth-Sphere alliance.

The Earth Sphere alliance is lead by Treize Kushrenada and the mysterious Zechs Marquise, who wears a mask almost constantly.

However, the story quickly unfolds into much larger implications.

This is a great anime and in my opinion the best in the saga. The anime has extremely well developed characters with several problems and inner demons. The plot is also great. The animation is smart and the dialog witty.

There are really only a things I didn't like about this show, one was that it didn't really tread much new ground since its predecessors.

    I give it an 8/10.

It's good. It's just not Gundam

Gundam Wing is the first installment of the 20 year old Mobile Suit Gundam franchise to make it to american television. And quite frankly, I think that Cartoon Network could have chosen a better introduction. A the same time, they could have done worse as well.

Gundam Wing tells the story of the five Gundam Pilots, young terrorists sent to Earth from the space colonies to take revenge on the death, ten years earlier, of the leader of the Colonies. In the course of their actions, they discover that their true enemy is the secret society OZ. Over it's 49 episodes, this series takes a convoluted plot, and executes it quite well. >

While the story of Gundam Wing is it's greatest strength, it is also the show's greatest weakness. The simple fact is that anyone who knows Gundam has seen it all before... We saw it in Mobile Suit Gundam (1979) and again in Gundam F91 (1990). In addition, Gundam Wing does something else which is contrary to Gundam. It makes it Superheroic...

When the original Gundam premiered in 1979, it was a landmark series because it was the first show to portray the Mecha as simple fighting machines, like a tank or fighter jet. Prior Mecha shows always showed their machines as characters, mute and unintelligent, but characters nonetheless. Gundam chan ged all that. Unfortunately, by making it's Gundams superheroic Mecha that are invincible, Gundam Wing turns it's back on that.. And ultimately, that's what turns me off of the show...

In other words, It's good, but it's just not Gundam...

    • Trivia
Relena Darlian was modeled after actress Audrey Hepburn, while the dress she wears in the latter portion of the series is identical to one worn by Hepburn's character Princess Ann in Roman Holiday (1953).
    • Goofs
When Sally Po is introduced, she talks in a high-pitched, almost little girl-like voice. In later episodes, her voice is far more gruff.
    • Quotes

Heero Yuy: Botched your mission? You couldn't destroy the base and you didn't kill Doctor J and the others.

Duo Maxwell: How 'bout a little sympathy? In any case I'm still glad I decided to come here. I've got good news, your Gundam and mine are being rebuilt as we speak, ya know. I can hardly wait until they're done.

Heero Yuy: Looks like Oz will be keeping up alive for a while. It's a good chance so don't die yet.

Duo Maxwell: Don't worry about me pal, I have no intention of dying that easily. There's the colonies to fight for. Just watch me, I'll become the God of Death once again... but right now, I need some sleep.

    • Alternate versions
The version that Cartoon Network shows on its Toonami afternoon segment contains some cuts and changes from the original dub. Enumerated as follows:
      • Most of the blood is removed.
      • "Damn" changed to "darn"/"curse"/"blast"; direct references to "kill" changed to "destroy"/"stop"; "hell" removed (changed variously to "darkness", or "heck").
      • Duo's self referencing as the "God of Death" is changed to the "Great Destroyer".
      • Episode 7 "Scenario for Bloodshed": When General Septem is shot in mid-air, the bullet going through him is not shown.
      • Episode 12 "Bewildered Warriors": When Trowa says he wishes he were more like Heero, he responds regarding the self-destruction of Wing Gundam, "It hurts like hell." This is changed into "It hurts really bad."
      • Episode 17 "Betrayed By Home, Far Away": During an interrogation, Lady Une exasperatedly points a gun at Professor G's head and questions him; this scene is cut.
      • Episode 23 "Duo, God of Death Once Again": Duo says "What B.S.!" when he sees an OZ representative on TV; "B.S." is removed. Also, an interrogation scene where Hilde questions Duo while pointing a gun at him is edited.
      • Episode 25 "Quatre vs. Heero": When Lady Une is shot, the bullet is not shown going through her.
      • Episode 48 "Take-Off Into Confusion": During a swordfighting match, Dorothy runs her fencing foil through Quatre; this is not shown in the cut version. It is made to appear as though Dorothy just scraped him.
