Fighting General Daimos (1978)

Trivia

Fighting General Daimos

Edit
The series revolves around the concept of two star-Crossed lovers, each from a different side in an ongoing war. The series's director Tadao Nagahama credited "Romeo and Juliet" as the series' main inspiration.
The main robot of the series uses genuine martial arts techniques when fighting. The martial artist Kazutoshi Takahashi was hired to provide reference for the techniques depicted.
The series was intended to last for 50 episodes. The length was reduced to 44 episodes due to low ratings.
In 1978, a diecast toy of Daimos was produced by the toy company Popy. In the American market, the toy was marketed as part of Mattel's "Shogun Warriors" line of toy-themed robots. In the 1980s, the toy was re-introduced as part of the "Godaikin" line.
The television series was used as a replacement for "Voltes V" which had completed its run.
