This Mister Magoo short doesn't get off the ground

This is a Mister Magoo short from the UPA Studios. There will be spoilers ahead: This short really has only one thing going for it-the voice work by Jim Backus and Daws Butler. The story is weak, the gags are tired and it&#39;s just not terribly interesting. Magoo thinks he&#39;s on the highway, after having pulled out of a &quot;garage&quot; after being treated rudely by the mechanic. He has been treated rudely, because he&#39;s driven into an airplane hangar and then driven out onto the runway. Aside from one semi-interesting gag involving the passengers on a plane, we are &quot;treated&quot; to standard &quot;Magoo is nearsighted&quot; gags, most involving Magoo mistaking planes for passing &quot;cars&quot;. The exchanges between the tower and the flight crew of a plane needing to make an emergency landing are the best part of the short, along with a running dialog between pilot and co-pilot toward the end of the short. The short isn&#39;t horrible, it&#39;s just mediocre. It, along with all the other Magoo theatrical shorts and a Magoo feature film, is available in a three-disc DVD box set from Shout! Factory, which is excellent. The set&#39;s worth getting.
