When Jim Varney was undergoing treatments for cancer, Billy Bob Thornton moved the schedule around, so Varney could film his scenes.
Jim Varney's last film before his death in 2000 at the age of 50 due to lung cancer from smoking and this film was dedicated to his memory.
The original plan was to release this film to theaters, but Miramax felt it was not "commercial" enough, so it debuted on cable television.
The film was released on June 6th, 2001, 9 days before what would've been Jim Varney's 52nd birthday.
