It works

Well, I quite liked this forgotten Hong Kong action thriller, which I think sits well when compared to comparable stuff that Hollywood was putting out during the era (I'm thinking of productions like John Woo's BROKEN ARROW in particular). It's a buddy-style road movie in which undercover cop Julian Cheung and international arms dealer Michael Wong are thrown together for an exciting adventure through mainland China in a bid to smuggle some missiles back to Hong Kong. The lengthy plotting favourably recalls classics like INFERNAL AFFAIRS and Cheung is solid in a Tony Leung-type role, although the charismatic Wong is my favourite thing in this. There's plenty of satisfying fights, shoot-outs and explosions here, particularly during the typically over the top climax. Watch out for Francis Ng's bizarre role as a psychiatrist.
