- Bettina Peterson: [pulls up in a pick-up truck at a crossroads at where Chuck is] You look lost.
- Chuck Noland: I do?
- Bettina Peterson: [gets out of her pick-up, interested] Where're you headed?
- Chuck Noland: Well, I was just about to figure that out.
- Bettina Peterson: [pointing in the directions of the roads] Well, that's 83 South. And this road here will hook you up with I-40 East. If you turn right, that'll take you to Amarillo, Flagstaff, California. And if you head back that direction, you'll find a whole lot of nothing all the way to Canada.
- Chuck Noland: I got it.
- Bettina Peterson: All right, then.
- [Bettina gets back in her pick-up truck]
- Bettina Peterson: [kindly] Good luck, cowboy.
- Chuck Noland: Thank you.
- [Bettina drives off in the direction Chuck just came from, Chuck notices the angel wings on the back of Bettina's pick-up truck, signifying hope, Chuck looks at the other three roads and then looks down the road Bettina just drove down, and he smiles]
