Jitendra signed for lead role. Later replaced by Shashi Kapoor.
When the film shooting begin Shashi was a well known established actor while Hema Malini was just a newcomer.
Sharing memories of First time shooting experience with Shashi Kapoor Hema recalled that "I did Abhinetri with him when I just started my career. We had a wonderful time shooting for film . I remember the song Sa Re Ga Ma.. ... where my character teach Shashiji to sing and dance. . It was hilarious. Because he was far more experienced than me".
Hema in one if her interview taken after demise of Shashi Kapoor in 2017 said that wished she done more films with Shashi as he was class apart, he knows how to treat women. He was the most charming.
