    The stars are out tonight

The umpteenth parable that tells you that happiness awaits on you all where you are living with your mom, your fiancée and people of your kind.

Jeannot (Rossi) and his good pal Pierrot are fishermen in Corsica (the singer/actor's native island);a group of tourists visits the place and one of the women falls for Jeannot and his velvet-smooth voice .When she leaves the island,he follows her ,flanked by his Buddy ,leaving mom and virtuous fiancée behind.

Jeannot's and Pierrot's adventures are certainly pleasant enough:in Paris ,you expect the gifted singer to be discovered by some manager who will make him a star ;but he remains a busker ,often broke ,sleeping rough by the Seine ,or winding up in a nightclub where his career will be short-lived.Lucette Meryl, cast as her girlfriend from Corse ,has a very good line when she is asked by a nightclub guest if she can light his cigarette.

This is of course a vehicle for Rossi, and the others serve as foils to him, especially the unfairly forgotten Paul Pauley cast as the lady's fiancé ,a wealthy fiancé who is ugly ,obese ,clumsy and is an object of ridicule all along the movie.Paul Pauley,an educated man and a bon vivant played his thankless part with gusto:sadly he was to die soon after.

Tino is rather bland actor but he gets good support from Paul Azais, who ,when the singer does not pull a tune, steals the show from him.

However fans of Rossi-the-singer won't be disappointed :"Chanson POur Ma Brune" (which goes like this :"Sous Le Ciel De Mon Beau Pays" )is heard three or four times and there is a song in Corsican for good measure;but the magic moment comes when Tino performs, surrounded by hobos,"Tant Qu'Il Y Aura Des Etoiles " (=as long are there are stars),a lovely waltz ,still popular today
