Award winning composer Ennio Morricone was asked to score the film, but had to back out due to other projects. A piece of score he did for the film ended up being used as the theme. According to the film's final composer, Alessandro Alessandroni, Morricone asked him to score the film in his place. Alessandroni stated he based some of the music on the piece Morricone did as well as developing it further.
The song "A Flower's All You Need" by Demis Roussos was reused the next year as the main theme for Last Stop on the Night Train (1975).
The film premiere took place on April 1, 1974 on the ocean liner Raffaello, which left Genoa and stopped in Cannes.
The film's production lasted two years.
Raymond Peynet, who participated in the making of the film, said that it did not want to convey any message, but only to be an ode to the most natural love.
