John Astin makes a special guest appearance as Grandpa Addams. He played Gomez Addams in the show The Addams Family (1964-1966).
Morticia references Rome being burned. "Rome wasn't burned in a day". She's right-- it took 6 days and destroyed 70% of the city of Rome when Emperor Nero was playing his fiddle. This isn't the first time the burning of Rome was referenced, in the 1991 Addams Family film, Gomez says to Fester during the Mamushka; "We danced the Mamushka while Nero fiddled."

When John Astin was asked about this incarnation (in a 2015 interview), he said he felt show was respectful to the original series (and he did like making a guest appearance), but it appeared too similar to receive good acclaim.
The German RTL channel regularly reran this series in the early morning on weekends, paired with reruns of the television series "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers".
