People questioned why Jaya Pradha accepted a small role in the film. She stated she did the role because it was a powerful role and very important to the script. More importantly she said in Hindi version, she gets to marry Rajesh Khanna. Sridevi had acted in the south version of the film.
Sri Devi's voice was dubbed in the film by a dubbing artiste.
Director K.Raghavendra Rao stated he only signed Rajesh Khanna because he thought no other actor fitted the bill of the nobleman who becomes school teacher. Also his father had directed Khanna in Prem Nagar and South film industry always admired Khanna's acting skills. So after Himmatwala became popular and he established a name for himself, he asked Jeetendra to introduce him to Khanna.
The Film also became a HIT in Hindi and had a box office collection of Rs. 4,00,00,000 in 1984 and was given 3.5 stars by the critics in the Bollywood guide Collections .
NAYA KADAM was a commercial success grossing Rs. 30.25 million becoming one of the Highest - Grossing Film of 1984 . The Movie did well in spite of violent political conditions in the country due to assassination of PM Indira Gandhi .
