The show was produced 3 years after two of the original stooges died. Moe Howard on May 4, 1975, and Larry Fine on Jan. 24, 1975.
The series was an effort to continue the "Three Stooges" franchise after the deaths of its main cast. Curly Howard had died in 1952, Shemp Howard had died in 1955, and Moe Howard and Larry Fine had both died in 1975. The creator of the series was Norman Maurer who had served as the manager of the comedy team since 1957.
